The Friend Zone

When Josh realizes that Kristen is at Sloan and Brandon’s house and has been crying to Sloan, he assumes that she is upset about breaking up with Tyler. He feels guilty for pressuring her to begin an exclusive relationship so soon, and he also feels awkward over his presence at Brandon and Sloan’s house when Kristen probably needs space. He offers to leave, but Sloan tells him to stay. He goes back out the garage with Brandon until dinner is ready and shares his theory that Kristen is upset about Tyler. Brandon is not so sure, because Kristen never seemed very emotional about Tyler.

Josh goes back inside to tell Kristen that he was sorry for crowding her. He makes sure that she is comfortable with his presence at dinner. She reiterates that they must remain just friends, and he agrees. At dinner, the four of them talk and joke, and the tension dissipates. Sloan and Brandon provide a comfortable environment so that Josh and Kristen can regain their friendly terms. The couple also recalls that Sloan and Brandon first met when Sloan was taking her roommate to the hospital because she had passed out from anemia.
